Frequently asked questions

Can I enter the US more than 30 days before program start?

Generally no — CBP will admit you with valid F-1 visa but your school expects you within the window. You'll likely face questioning or be denied entry at the border.

What if my flight is delayed and I arrive on day 31?

Single-day delays are usually handled at POE (port of entry) with documentation. Multiple-day lateness requires contacting your DSO to reset your record, which may require travel.

What about re-entry after traveling home?

F-1 students with valid visa and travel-signed I-20 can re-enter any time during the program. The 30-day window only applies to initial entry.
